The Leander Independent School District, north of Austin, TX, is apologizing to parents after books with inappropriate content including graphic sex scenes were assigned to teens as part of the reading curriculum.
Leander ISD admitted in a statement apologizing for the mistake, “We over-relied on written reviews and recommendations.”
The district appeared to cut corners during lockdown, choosing not to read the books before including them in high school reading lists.
The district concluded, “We acknowledge this breakdown and apologize for selecting inappropriate literature for the assigned students’ ages.”
