The charges against Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who knelt on George Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes, have been increased from 3rd Degree to 2nd Degree Murder.
Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng, and Thomas Lane, the other officers on the scene of Floyd’s murder, have now been charged with aiding and abetting 2nd Degree Murder.
The United States Justice Department and the FBI have also opened federal investigations into whether any federal laws were violated in George Floyd’s death.
The overwhelming majority of Americans agree Mr. Floyd was victimized by police brutality.
